How It Works

VXG Cloud VMS

There are 3 options for connecting cameras to the cloud:

1. Camera plug-ins

A firmware plug-in or application is a software module that runs directly on the camera and connects it to the cloud. Once installed it makes the camera plug-&-play. There is no need to do any network configuration, like port forwarding or opening ports. VXG offers pre-built plug-ins for major camera brands and models. The plug-in source code is open and publicly available for integration with new cameras.

2. ONVIF Uplink

ONVIF Uplink is a new standard for connecting IP cameras to the cloud. VXG fully supports ONVIF Uplink and with more cameras coming to market supporting this protocol, the use of extra software modules will become unnecessary. VXG also helps camera vendors with implementation and testing of ONVIF Uplink on cameras.

3. VPN

VXG supports IPsec site-to-site VPN tunnel which makes connection to cameras as simple as if they were in your local network. IPsec VPN is supported by the majority of modern routers making the connection with the Cloud simple and secure, without additional hardware or software.

Technology

Cloud Connection

In the case of camera plug-ins and ONVIF Uplink, a camera is establishing a secure WebSocket connection with the cloud. This connection is used for tunneling commands and data. The connection is bi-directional and allows accessing the kamera through the cloud.

Direct Cloud Recording

Camera plug-ins allow direct Cloud recording to a cloud object storage of your choice, giving you the flexibility of selecting the lowest object storage cost or even using free tiers. The simple structure of the recorded video storage and standard MP4 and JPEG file formats allow viewing recorded data directly, even without a Cloud VMS.

SD Card Playback

VXG supports playback of recorded video from a camera SD card, as well as the backup of SD card video to the cloud storage. This provides reliability and redundancy, and resolves situations with insufficient network bandwidth or when there a network outage.

Camera Web UI

The camera plug-ins and ONVIF Uplink allow viewing camera Web UI remotely through the Cloud. This is particularly convenient for changing camera specific settings or remote maintenance of a camera.
